Rancho Santa Margarita, also known as RSM, neighboring Mission Viejo, Trabuco Canyon, and Coto de Caza, the city was incorporated in 2000 and became the 33rd city in Orange County. A master-planned community with a population of around 50,000, Rancho Santa Margarita has a median househousld income of about $95,000. An unsettled area until 1986, Rancho Santa Margarita it is now an established newer city with many attractions including a 13-acre manmade Lake Rancho Santa Margarita featuring its own outdoor ampitheater. Residents enjoy fishing, boating and kayaking as well as bicycling and walking the 1-mile loop. The Beach Club offers swimming at a small beach, with nearby picnic and barbeque areas. Tijeras Creek Golf Club, surrounded by rolling hillsides, is open to the public.
Rancho Santa Margarita is served by both Saddleback Valley School District and Capistrano Unified School District with several elementary schools and two middle schools within the city. Choices of high schools in nearby cities include Trabuco High, Mission Viejo High, and several private options including St. John’s Episcopal High, Serra Catholic, and Santa Margarita Catholic schools.
Mission Hospital, the region’s designated trauma center, is nearby in Mission Viejo, with Saddleback Memorial Medical Center close by, the only women’s hospital in south Orange County.
Just 25 minutes from John Wayne/Orange County International Airport, Rancho Santa Margarita is nearby the Foothill Transportation Corridor.
