Laguna Hills, incorporated in 1996, has a population of about 33,000 based on the 2000 census. Nestled in the Saddleback Valley, it is an area built on one of the major land grants developed during the Rancho Era, following Mexico’s independence from Spain. With a high median family income Laguna Hills is an established community.
The City of Laguna Hills Community Center and Sports Complex were built on one of the richest fossil sites in the Nation. The Sports complex features a softball, baseball, and soccer field and a Skate Park. Many sports activities, community classes and programs are offered through the community center. In 1996 a Prehistoric Playground was designed which is open to the public, with a Picnic Shelter area.
Homes in Laguna Hills are varied from condominiums and tract homes in many neighborhoods to large custom homes in the upscale equestrian community of Nellie Gale Ranch. Bordering Aliso Viejo to the south and North Laguna Hills, it is close to State Route 133, connecting to Laguna Beach and Pacific Coast Highway to the south and to the Interstate 405 and 5 freeways to the north, as well as the 241 toll road.
Served by the Saddleback Valley Unified School District, there are a number of elementary schools, two middle schools and its own Laguna Hills High School. The nearby K-6 St. Georges Episcopal School is a private academy. Its own mall, Laguna Hills Mall, offers many department stores and shops. Close to Irvine Spectrum to the north and Mission Viejo to the South, Laguna Hills has many entertainment options.
