With an economy based highly on retail service, the center of commercial activity is South Coast Plaza—a shopping center recognized internationally for its retail collection and award winning restaurants. Light manufacturing and commerce also add to the economy of Costa Mesa.

The premier venue, The Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa known for its stunning architecture, facilities and exceptional acoustic, is Orange County’s largest non-profit arts organization. The Center is also home of three resident companies: Pacific Symphony, The Philharmonic Society and Pacific Chorale. Each summer, The Orange County Fair attracts over a million visitors at the Orange County Fairgrounds.
Orange Coast College and Vanguard University and Whittier Law School are located in Costa Mesa.Hoag Memorial Hospital in nearby Newport Beach is known for exceptional healthcare with more than 1,300 physicians, 5,000 employees and 2,000 volunteers.
